Learning objectives
The course aims to provide graduates with tools to follow the design path of rural buildings taking into account both the functional needs derived from the farm's production scheme, and the consequences of the design choices on the management of the farm. In particular, the purpose of the course is to provide the knowledge and methodologies for the correct sizing of the functional spaces of livestock farms, taking into account the thermal balance of the building, the needs of the animals and the production system in which the building is located.
Expected learning outcomes
The student acquires knowledge of animals' needs in terms of both environmental conditions and space in order to be able to deal with the general design of livestock buildings, assuring animal welfare.
He will be able to apply his knowledge to practical cases by preparing a building design (definition of the dimensions and division of spaces, thermal balance, evaluation of the heating, ventilation, cooling system. Furthermore, he will use the acquired knowledge for a critical evaluation of the project, in order to identify possible improvements (for example energy saving) and for the insertion of the building in the territorial context in which it is located.
