Learning objectives
The bachelors of the Degree Course in Cardiocirculatory Pathophysiology and Cardiovascular Perfusion Techniques in accordance with the European Union guidelines, at the end of the degree course must be equipped with:
· Knowledge of the evolution of the profession, of the founding concepts and of the specific methodology;
· Knowledge of the principles and rules that define the field of activity and professional responsibility;
· Knowledge of the bioethical, deontological and legal and medico-legal principles of the profession;
· A level of professional, decision-making and operational autonomy deriving from a complete training course;
· Knowledge, skills and experience useful for planning, managing and evaluating professional intervention;
· Knowledge, skills and experience to ensure the correct application of the learned theory;
· The ability to contribute directly to updating related to one's professional profile;
· The methodology and culture necessary for the practice of lifelong learning;
· The ability to collaborate and integrate with the various professional figures in group activities;
· Knowledge of the ethical and historical dimensions of medicine with particular reference to cardiovascular supports;
Expected learning outcomes
Graduates must achieve the following specific cultural and professional skills:
· Have learned the bases for the quantitative and qualitative understanding of biological and physiological phenomena;
· Have learned the essential morphological characteristics of the organs and tissues belonging to the cardiovascular system;
· Have learned the fundamentals of the values of medicine and ethics, health law, management and the legal and ethical aspects of the profession;
· Have developed the professional skills provided by the profile;
· Have learned the basic techniques of extracorporeal circulation, and more generally of mechanical, cardiorespiratory and respiratory cardiocirculatory assistance;
· Have developed the knowledge of the different perfusion systems and their application on the patient;
· Have learned the extracorporeal normothermic and hyperthermic perfusion methods for district antiblastic therapies;
· Have learned the metabolic bases that regulate the functioning of organs and systems with particular reference to the heart, arterial and venous circulation and the respiratory system;
· Have learned the pharmacological basis of the clinical treatment of cardiovascular pathology;
· Have knowledge of the basic principles of the electrical activity of the heart in order to perform instrumental control of pacemaker devices and automatic implantable defibrillator;
· Develop managerial autonomy in the provision of instrumental diagnostic procedures;
· Ensure the correct application of the required therapeutic diagnostic prescriptions;
· Know the principles useful for understanding the functioning of medical equipment and materials;
· Know the prevention and epidemiology of diseases with particular reference to the cardiovascular system;

Prerequisites for admission
The student must have all the professional knowledge acquired by all the exams foreseen in the study plan. In particular, the student is admitted to the final exam after having successfully passed the examinations of all the training and internship activities provided for in the study plan
Teaching methods
The practical test, for all candidates, consists in the drawing of a clinical case, previously created by the commission, by the student at the beginning of the test. The clinical case provides for each candidate the simulation of the choice of material to be provided to the surgeons, the setting up of the heart and lung machine and the management of cardiac surgery according to the scenario drawn using the simulator provided The types of thesis are:
a) compilation thesis (or bibliography), which aims to analyze the state of the art on a topic through a narrative review of the literature;
b) experimental (or research) thesis, which aims to perform a detailed experimental project in all its aspects (sample size, outcome measurements, statistical analysis);
c) argumentative thesis, which does not collect experimental data but nevertheless establishes the methodology (sample size, outcome measurements, statistical analysis) to respond to an experimental question.
In the preparation of the thesis the student will be supervised by a teacher of the CdS, who will play the role of Speaker, and eventual a Correlator.
The oral dissertation of the thesis is carried out in the presence of the Commission, usually with a time limit not exceeding 15 minutes.
Teaching Resources
All the material already indicated to the student during the three years of course. For the written work, the student, under the guidance of the Speaker, will have to independently search for the bibliography related to the topic assigned for the written work.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The final exam consists of a practical test during which the student must demonstrate that he has acquired the knowledge and theoretical-practical and technical-operational skills of the specific professional profile and in the drafting of an elaborate and its dissertation.
The final test takes place in the periods and in the ways prescribed by a decree of the Ministry of University and Scientific and Technological Research in agreement with the Ministry of Health, before a Commission composed of 7-11 members, of which at least 2 are appointed by the Order of TSRM and PSTRP of Milan and Provinces (Commission of the Health Profession of Prevention Technician in the Environment and in the Workplace). The dates of the sessions are communicated by the University to the MIUR and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Policy, who can send their own experts, as representatives.
Usually, the two national degree sessions are held in October-November (first session) and in March-April (second session). The final exam of the Degree Course in Cardiocirculatory and Cardiovascular Perfusion Techniques which has the value of State Examination, consists of two different evaluation moments, which include:
a) practical test
b) dissertation of a written paper (thesis).
Failure to pass the practical test does not allow admission to the oral presentation of the thesis.
