Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive outline of the literature on visual art, acknowledging its intrinsically interdisciplinary features.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: Knowledge of the sources on the history of art, in their broadest meaning: from treatises to literary and archival sources, etc.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Development of a critical thinking; acquisition of basic critical tools to deal with sources and to seek, recognize, understand and decode them.

AT THE HEART OF THE 20TH CENTURY: ART HISTORIOGRAPHY, PUBLISHING, COLLECTING

THIS PROGRAMME EXPIRES IN JULY 2025

Part A (20 hours and 3 cfu): Between historiography and collecting
Part B (20 hrs, 3 cfu): Between History and Geography
Part C (20 hrs, 3 cfu): Text and Image Reading Exercises

Course presentation
The course aims to present some aspects of the visual culture of the second half of the 20th century in Italy.
Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of the basic concepts of historical chronology and main movements of Italian and European literature and culture is recommended. Classes are in Italian language.
Teaching methods
The lessons take place in the classroom, through reading exercises and examining some images.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Oral: The oral test, which takes place in Italian, consists of an interview on the topics presented in class and on the required readings. An essential condition to pass the exam is the knowledge of the Italian language.
