Learning objectives
The course traces the history of opera from its origins to the contemporary age, and identifies the main structural, morphological and aesthetical features. Listening and analysis of some significant operas will be carried out.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will acquire knowledge of historical, structural, dramaturgical and aesthetical aspects of opera, from its origins to the contemporary age.

Unit A:
Historical ant theoretical aspects of the opera.

Unit B:
Careful listening and analysing of the addressed operas; reading of the libretto and, where appropriate, reading of the full score or the piano-vocal score.

Unit C:
Deepening: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute.
Prerequisites for admission
There are no special requirements.
Teaching methods
Theoretical lessons, guided listening of the approached operas, practical examples at the piano.
