There is a special focus on specific aspects of clinical presentation, diagnosis, prevention and therapy.
The course has also the objective to give the student the ability to critically evaluate laboratory tests and imaging studies. The student acquires the relational abilities that are needed when speaking with parents.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is supposed to be able to make diagnostic hypotheses for the most important diseases of each different system, to know the differential diagnosis, the diagnostic procedures, including laboratory diagnosis and imaging, to propose therapies.

Assessment methods and Criteria
At the end of the course the student is supposed to be able to make diagnostic hypotheses for the most important diseases of each different system, to know the differential diagnosis, the diagnostic procedures, including laboratory diagnosis and imaging. The Internal Medicine exam usually is oral and consists of the discussion of a clinical case (e.g. patient with dyspnoea, high/low blood pressure, fever, cough, haemophtoe, chest/abdominal/ osteoarticular pain, jaundice, palpable nodules, and so on), starting from symptoms and signs, going on with the physical examination and finally discussing the diagnostic workup, with possible differential diagnoses and the management of the condition (therapy together with non pharmacological recommendations).
Knowledge of the physical examination is to be considered a prerequisite.
The candidate should be able to comment on diagnostic tools such as biochemical exams, EKG, blood gas analysis, imaging studies and provide an interpretation consistent with the clinical picture.
As far as therapy is concerned, the student should be able to discuss most commonly used antibiotic treatments (indications and doses) as well as corticosteroid therapy. "
