Learning objectives
The aim of the lab stage is to allow the student to spend a 4-6-week experience in a research lab, learning the principles of scientific research and to acquire some basic techniques applied to the research topic of the lab stage.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to work independently in the laboratory, organising work by collecting and analysing data to produce reliable and scientifically sound results. Students are also expected to acquire the skills to contextualise these results and to present and discuss them with colleagues and researchers.

Course syllabus
The internship consists of work in a research group aimed at learning experimental methods to address a specific problem of biological interest.
Prerequisites for admission
The Laboratory Stage is mandatory and required for graduation.
The location and topic of the internship must be agreed upon by both the University of Milan (UniMI) and the University of Grenoble-Alpes (UGA) through the Joint Board of Studies (JBS). The JBS must appoint at least one academic supervisor for each internship.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Students must submit a 3 page written report in English and the supervisor's evaluation form. The student will be asked to give a short oral presentation of the work, followed by a discussion with a committee composed of members of both universities. The student's understanding of the work carried out and discussion of the results obtained will be evaluated.
At UNIMI the internship work is simply approved or not approved, while at UGA a grade out of 20 is assigned.
