Laboratory Training
A.Y. 2023/2024
Learning objectives
The main learning objectives of the Laboratory Training course is to equip the MBC student with all the necessary practical and safety skills in order to autonomously manage and execute a scientific research project, carried out in biomolecular-related scientific fields. The training objectives emphasize different aspects related to correct laboratory procedures, work ethics and practical skills necessary to carry out the subsequent thesis project.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will acquire expertise in the autonomous handling of laboratory instruments to correctly carry out scientific experiments. Planning and organization of an experimental biomolecular research project and problem solving skills will be acquired. Furthermore, the student will master the appropriate tools necessary for the critical evaluation of scientific literature and for accurate data interpretation and analysis.

In the first part of this period (about 2-3 months) the students will become acquainted with the methodologies and investigation techniques that are mandatory to properly collect research data. During this period the students will carry out practical hands on activities under the constant supervision of a trained senior researcher.
Teaching methods
Laboratory training and detailed descriptions of the adopted methods and approaches by the Master thesis project supervisor
Teaching Resources
Laboratory notebook and bibliography related to the methods and approaches used
Assessment methods and Criteria
The supervisor of the thesis project will test the student's autonomy in carrying out the main experimental protocols that will be the focus of the experimental activity envisaged in the research project at the center of the master's thesis. At the end of this period upon positive written approval by the MBC coordinator and supervisor of the thesis project the student may start his/her research project in an autonomous manner.
