Learning objectives
The course aims to:
- provide knowledge about characteristics and principles in the use of MRI equipment
illustrate the main guidelines for performing MRI studies of various organs and systems, as well as the ability to recognize in the images: examined segment, acquisition plane, used type of sequence.
- provide specific knowledge to apply the radiological techniques of studying to the central nervous system.
- illustrate the current role of vascular and interventional radiology in the diagnosis and therapy of different diseases, and to inform students about the angiographic devices and technical issues related to the different procedures.
- provide knowledge about anatomy and pathology of the upper airway and their correlation with diagnostic imaging.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end, students must:
- know the characteristics and the fundamentals of MRI equipment
- know the basics of the most commonly used protocols in MRI
- know how to correlate the MRI images to the anatomical structures of the human body, and be able to recognize the different types of weighing and sequences used
- know the techniques of study of the CNS (from CT to standard and functional MRI investigations)
- know the different types of devices and the main procedures used in interventional radiology
- know the main diseases of the upper airway and their more suitable investigation techniques.
Single course

This course can be attended as a single course.

Course syllabus and organization

Single session

Prerequisites for admission
In-depth knowledge of the contents of the course "Basis of Phisics and Mathematics".
Assessment methods and Criteria
The learning assessment includes a written test and an oral test.
The 45-minute written test is based on 60 multiple choice questions with 4 answer options (only one correct). A minimum score of 18 is needed to access the oral part of the examination. Each correct answer is assigned a score of 0.5 points up to the total score of 30 points available, There is 0.1 points penalty for each wrong answer. There are no penalties for replies not given. The written test can include all the topics covered during the lessons.
The oral exam must be taken in the same exam session in which the written test was taken and passed. Failure to pass the oral exam entails the repetition of the written test. To consult the calendar of exam sessions scheduled for the current academic year, reference should be made to the calendar of appeals published on the website of the Degree Course.
The oral exam globally evaluates the competences acquired by the student and always includes one or more questions on course contents.
The final grade is not the arithmetic average of the mark of the written test and the oral exam.
The booking on the UNIMIA portal, within the dates established for each appeal, is mandatory for the examination.
