Learning objectives
The course aims to provide the student on the one hand with knowledge of the linguistic characteristics of the media both within historical evolution and in the synchronic dimension; On the other hand, a set of tools are needed to analyze the verbal aspects of media and sectoral language in depth, and to produce texts utilizing those languages.
Expected learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide a range of in-depth knowledge about the characteristics of Italian media.
As far as skills are concerned, by the end of the course the student should have a set of language analysis tools that allow them on the one hand to be able to report with convincing accuracy and completeness on the characteristics of Italian media; on the other hand to conduct in-depth analysis of the verbal aspects of media and sectoral languages, to produce texts utilizing those languages.

Course syllabus
The course aims to outline the linguistics characteristics of the mass media.
The first part will be dedicated to an introduction to the discipline and to provide an overview of linguistics uses in the various media; the second part will be decribed the language of italian cinema; in the third part we will focus on the italian language of the web; in the third part
Prerequisites for admission
Basic knowledge of italian linguistics is required.
Teaching methods
Teaching consists of face-to-face lessons that include the analysis of case studies; the teacher may propose that students work on short papers on agreed topics, which generally require linguistic analysis of texts. There are moments of practice that require the direct intervention of the student. Support materials, in the form of presentations and texts in pdf format, are made available through the Ariel platform.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The achievement of the learning requirements is verified through an oral test that aim to verify the possession of qualifying knowledge and the ability to put them into practice in the analysis of texts of various kinds.
