Learning objectives
The teaching aims to provide students, through a mainly practical-applicative course, the basic knowledge for the non-veterinary management of newborns in the canine, feline and equine species, both in terms of assistance at birth and as monitoring and management along the neonatal period.

At the end of the course the students are expected to have acquired the knowledge and skills for the basic and non-veterinary assistance at birth and for the monitoring and management of the neonatal period in dogs, cats and horses.

Prerequisites for admission
The basic knowledge of dog, cat and horse reproduction are considered useful for understanding the subject.
Teaching methods
The frontal lessons take place in the classroom with the aid of slides. Students are invited to participate actively in the lesson, on the basis of the knowledge acquired in the preparatory subjects.
The practices will possibly take place on breedimng facilities and/or in the skill lab. Under the guidance of the tutors, the students will gain experience in the assessment and assistance of newborns and in the hygienic, nutritional and environmental management of orphans.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam takes place in an oral test in which the acquisition of the knowledge and skills provided by the course will be verified.The final mark of the written test will be expressed out of thirty.
If the student answers positively and exhaustively to all the questions of the oral test, the final grade will be equal to 30/30 or 30/30L.
There are 8 exam sessions and they take place in the months of January, February, April, June, July, September, October and December with the cadence set by the teaching college. There are also additional exam sessions for out-of-course students.
In order to take the exam, it is essential to register for the session through the ONLINE SIFA service of the University.
