Learning objectives
The aims of the course are:
- to elaborate rehabilitation projects in relation to different pathologies with indications, contraindications, prognoses, long, medium- and short-term objectives;
- to set up a rehabilitation protocol for the main pathologies, identify the need for aids and orthoses;
- to collaborate with other figures in the rehabilitation of patients with neurocognitive disorders with swallowing and incontinence disorders;
- to adopt the most appropriate assessment scales in relation to the pathology.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student must be able to translate the program from the rehabilitation projects, taking into account the indications, contraindications, prognosis, short, medium and long-term objectives for both neurological and orthopedic, pulmonary and visceral pathologies of the pelvic floor of interest. rehabilitation. Furthermore, he / she must be able to identify and interpret the main scales of assessment of the pathologies identified.

Prerequisites for admission
The student should have the knowledges required in courses in anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, orthopedics and neurology.

Definition of Rehabilitation: identification of the contents and understanding of the meaning of the keywords
o Definition of the concept of health: historical background and cultural evolution- Cultural influence in ethics
o Concept of Impairment - Disability and Handicap
o Rehabilitation team concept
o The figure of the physiotherapist: professional profile and identification of functions, activities, skills and responsibilities
o Gestural and relational aspects of the profession.
o The code of ethics of the physiotherapist
· The elaboration of the "REHABILITATION PROGRAM": identification of the contents and procedural steps
o "PHYSIOTHERAPY EVALUATION": first approach to patient observation and evaluation. Practical examples
o Aids in rehabilitation: purpose and use
o Notes on Ergonomics
o Manual handling and transfer of patients: theoretical prerequisites for safeguarding the health of the spine and upper limbs of the physiotherapist
· Mechanical movement of patients: main devices and their use

Spinal cord injuries
· Epidemiology
· The history of the Spinal Unit in Italy
· Unipolar Spinal Units
· Clinical classification: AIS Scale
· Functional prognosis

The initial stage:
· Taking charge: observation and evaluation (Italian Toolkit Evaluation for Spinal Cord Injury)
· Tertiary damage prevention: Positioning, mobilization, handling
· Compensation, tricks and adaptive motor strategies; the concept of functional hand
· Immobilization orthosis: type, indications and use

The next stage:
· Postural re-adaptation: orthostatic hypotension and autonomic dysreflexia
· Control of spasticity
· ADL training
· Re-education on the way: orthoses and aids
· Technology rehabilitated: exoskeletons for the upper and lower limbs, platforms and stable metric seats, use of visual games
· Sport Therapy in spinal cord injuries
· Hydrokinesitherapy

Introduction to Neurological Rehabilitation.
The individual neurological rehabilitation project.
The physiological basis of neurological rehabilitation: neuroplasticity and the mirror-neuron system.
The neuromotor and neurocognitive rehabilitation.
The main neuropsychological disorders
The rehabilitation of cerebro-vascular pathologies.
The rehabilitation of the main neurological disorders.
Teaching methods
The lessons take place in the classroom and include: frontal teaching, vision and analysis of photos and videos, practical tests between students supervised by the teacher, work in groups and research activities, analysis and presentation of scientific articles.
