Learning objectives
The purpose of this course is to enable students to acquire: knowledge of the fundamental institutions and general principles of Italian Private Law; the ability to re-elaborate the principles and rules being studied and to apply this knowledge to concrete cases; the ability to interpret and systematically read the legal rules; the autonomous ability to identify the ratio underlying each rule; the use of appropriate legal language; a level of learning ability suitable to continue studies with a high degree of autonomy.
Expected learning outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course student will be able to know the fundamental concepts and institutions of private law and understand the general principles of private law.
- Applying knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course student will be able to rework the principles and rules being object of study and to apply such knowledge to concrete cases and case-law.
- Making judgements: at the end of the course the student will have the ability to take a reasoned and legally sustainable position with reference to the topics covered by the course.
- Communication skills: at the end of the course the student will have the ability to express the acquired notions with argumentative consistency and systematic rigor, using and appropriate legal language.
- Learning skills: at the end of the course the student will have the ability to interpret legal rules, identifying the ratio behind each law, and to orient himself among the normative sources in the identification of the institutions and principles of private law applicable to concrete cases.

Prerequisites for admission
Private Law - Module 1 does not require prerequisites. However, it would be appropriate the contextual study of the sources of Italian and Community Law, which can be acquired attending the course of Constitutional Law.

Students are admitted to the oral exam in Private Law - Module 2 only if they have passed the oral exam in Private Law - Module 1.

To be admitted to oral exam (this applies to both Modules of Private Law), it is necessary to pass in advance a written test (see Learning Verification).
Assessment methods and Criteria
For admission to the oral exam in each Module, it is necessary to pass a written test in advance.
The written test consists of 15 multiple choice questions (three alternatives, one of which exact); the time allowed is 23 minutes; the use of the civil code is not allowed; the test is passed with at least 12 correct answers.
Any positive outcome of the written test remains valid for the entire session (June-September and December-February). In case of negative outcome of the oral test, the test remains valid and must not be repeated (always within the limits of the session).
The oral exam consists of an interview aimed at ascertaining the students' knowledge of the topics of the course, their understanding, the acquisition of adequate legal language, the ability to synthesize and rework.

The teaching focuses on the fundamental notions and concepts of private law.
The course will cover: general principles and notions; legal system and interpretation of the law; natural and legal persons; goods; legal transactions, unilateral promises, contracts; contract law; typical contracts governed by the civil code.

Program for the integration of the exam in the transition from the three-year period to Jurisprudence.
Students who have already passed the examination of private law institutions as part of the degree course in Legal Services and obtain the internal transfer to the degree course in Law must also pass the examination of private law institutions II, whose program will have as its object the study of the following topics: events and ways of extinguishing the obligation; family law and succession law due to death; protection of rights.

Teaching is held through lectures aimed at providing a solid theoretical base combined with attention to the specific case. To the lectures of the teacher are added exercises carried out in seminar form held by assistants and PhD students.

The course covers: tort and civil liability; management of other people's affairs and unjust enrichment; subjects, object and events of obligations; debt securities; rights in rem and possession; protection of rights; business law (excluding bankruptcy proceedings and employment relationship); family law; inheritance due to death.
