Psychology Applied to Social Relations, Communication and Group Dynamics

Learning objectives
The teaching module aims to provide students with the basics for:
· knowing the essential of general sociology, its origins, concepts and paradigms; the theoretical and epistemological references, the founders of the discipline;
· learning the processes of socialization and construction of collective and individual identity; social reproduction of social and gender inequality;
· driving students towards an interpretation of health and illness through some basic elements of sociology of health and illness;
· providing tools for an interpretation of the relationship between human reproduction and social reproduction, through the medicalization process

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students must be able:
· to know and discuss theoretical and epistemological peculiarities of sociology;
· to know and distinguish the research methods of the discipline and identify methods and tools;
· having acquired some tools for reflection, analysis and applicability of the discipline;
· having learned about the relationship and interconnection between sociology, society and medicine;
· to have acquired some interpretative elements of sociology of health and illness;
· having learned the medicalization process applied to human reproduction and the social change connected to it;
· having a knowledge, albeit partial, of health in relation to global society.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Learning outcomes are assessed through a written test, taking place during specific exam sessions as per the course Rules. The test includes both multiple choice and open-ended questions. All the modules comprised in the course contribute equally to determining the final mark, expressed on a scale of 30.
No intermediate or early sessions are planned.

Scores obtained in each module are published on the ARIEL course website; the reference teacher takes care of the final online recording through the UNIMI platform.
