Learning objectives
The course "Risk management and healthcare accountability" aims to promote the development of the theoretical and technical knowledge and skills required by professionals working in public and private healthcare companies, agencies and regulatory bodies, industries and companies in the health sector.
A particular in-depth study is dedicated to learn the legal provisions on the professional accountability of health professions, the skills necessary to ensure safety and to manage the intrinsic risk of health systems, both from a clinical and management point of view.
Furthermore, the most relevant laws that regulate the health organization and the legal and ethical norms that regulate the exercise of the professions in healthcare are examined.
The course also promotes the acquisition of scientific methods and tools essential for an appropriate and effective systemic analysis of the problems relating to the management of healthcare services, with particular reference to professional accountability, risk prevention and management and the evaluation of the effectiveness of intervention programs, through specific medico-legal and interdisciplinary competences.
Expected learning outcomes
Generate an integrated set of technical, cultural and aptitude characteristics to support professionals to foster an individual learning path that allows them to interpret and guide decision-making processes at a strategic and operational level.
Acquire knowledge for the extensive and in-depth application of the operational tools necessary to govern the risk management system process in healthcare, also through an understanding of the complexity, conditions of uncertainty, dynamism and continuous transformation that characterize public and private healthcare systems, within the framework of current legislation.
The student learns the legal foundations of professional practice, the main laws, rules, regulations of the health organization and know the main provisions concerning professional accountability in healthcare with practical application of the same.
Promote the learning of individual behaviors and organizational dynamics by improving interpersonal skills, teamwork with particular reference to professional accountability.
Develop analytical and problem solving skills also through the resolution of paradigmatic cases that allow the student to practically apply the skills learned.

Course syllabus
The course program includes the acquisition of basic knowledge of the discipline sufficient to:
- understand the issues of professional accountability and safety related to the professions in healthcare;
- critically assess the possible conditions of healthcare activities in which it is necessary to examine the implications for professional accountability and safety;
- acquire adequate knowledge of the current legislation on professional healthcare accountability;
- acquire adequate knowledge to identify, prevent, measure, evaluate, deal with the risk management process in healthcare;
- examine the implications deriving from the consequences of healthcare activities with reference to the law;
- integrate the knowledge acquired during the MASS Degree Course with concrete implementation of risk management and professional healthcare accountability.

Teaching methods
The lessons will take place in compliance with the regulatory provisions in force in order to guarantee the best safety conditions to manage the state of evolution of the pandemic.
Students will be able to participate:
- in the classroom, with procedures defined on the basis of the actual provisions;
- possibly, remotely via connection to the Microsoft Teams platform, both synchronously via streaming based on the scheduled timetable and asynchronously via registration and teaching material available to students on the ARIEL UniMi platform.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam in a single test is written and includes 30 predefined multiple-choice questions to achieve 30/30 score.
A brief open-ended question will allow those who have correctly answered all "closed" questions to receive cum laude.
The results will be communicated through the UniMi reporting system.
