Learning objectives
The course will provide the fundamental pedagogical knowledge in educational interventions in the field of social health; knowledge in analyzing the educational needs of the persons with chronic diseases, to plan and manage therapeutic patient education interventions focusing on health promotion; discuss the relational and educational methodologies aimed at supporting persons during the process of change.
It will also provide knowledge in research methodologies in the educational and sociological field, such as creating questionnaires, undertaking interviews, attitude scales, direct observation grids, assessments.
Finally, it will provide sociological knowledge in social dynamics that direct and condition interpersonal relationships and treatment programs.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
· indicate the fundamental characteristics of research in the social, psychological and educational fields;
· discuss the structure and dynamics of the population, the social stratification, the family;
· discuss public administration and organizational models of social policies and welfare state systems;
· discuss the genetic and evolutionary fundamentals of behavior;
· discuss the fundamental processes of learning and memory;
· discuss the main features of thought and language;
· discuss the meaning, the aims, the pedagogical models of reference and the relational styles that are part of the educational process;
· discuss the different levels of health promotion (health education, sanitary education and therapeutic education) and the specific interventions;
· recognize the main problems related to the onset of chronic disease highlighting the incidence that these problems have in terms of therapeutic adhesion;
· identify the phases and tools of educational planning: analysis of needs, goal definition, implementation of intervention, evaluation;
· analyze the issue of corporeity both in the experience of chronic illness and in the relationship between the occupational therapist and the patient.

Teaching methods
The classroom lessons foresee two teaching modalities: the classroom lesson, lasting about 90-120 minutes and the group work composed by 4-5 students. The outcome of the group work involves the drafting of a paper that reports the analysis of a concrete professional situation in which the students have to apply to the theoretical items presented during lessons.

- What is experimental pedagogy; why do research in education (lectures and lab)
- Qualitative and quantitative research
- The phases of quantitative research from the research question to the formulation of the hypotheses, the sampling, the choice of the research design.
- The tools of experimental research interviews, questionnaires, observation tools (lectures and laboratory)
- Standard research and research by experiment
- Qualitative research: the model, the research phases, the role of the researcher, the tools
- The survey tools in qualitative research: the types of interviews, the interview, the focus group, the brainstorming (frontal lesson and laboratory)
- Interpretative research, case study, action research
- The construction of a research (laboratory)
Teaching methods
The course will alternate lectures where the theoretical contents will be exposed with interactive lessons and laboratories in which the students will be able to experiment the use of tools and techniques of research in pedagogy
