Learning objectives
The objective of this course is that of introducing the students to the sociological theoretical tools which provide the ability to understand and analyse contemporary societies in all their complexity and articulation
Expected learning outcomes
To give to the students the necessary theoretical framework to understand and explain the complexities of contemporary societies , and the necessary awareness of the contradictions of everyday social living.

Course syllabus
This course is aimed at giving an introduction to Sociology, a discipline which provides the instruments to understand contemporary
societies in all their complexities and contradictions. Particular relevance will be given to the study of modern western societies, the
relations between societies and market, the relevance of power in social life, the development of urban culture, of multiethnic and
hybrid cultures in contemporary social experiences. Particular emphasis will be given to the relationship between social interaction and
communication, to the cultural theories and to the study of language as a social construction.
