Learning objectives
The course aims to provide the students with knowledge of a) descriptive models that allows to estimate different sources of variability; b) diagnostic test and corresponding measures of accuracy and diagnostic relevance; c) basic principles of observational studies design, interpretation of measures of disease occurrence and association between risk factors and disease occurrence; iv) basic principles of clinical trials design and of the concept of statistical inference.
Expected learning outcomes
Students are expected to develop the ability to use appropriate methodological tools to know, apply, and evaluate, through a critical evaluation of the scientific literature: a) the validity of anamnestic data and physical examinations, b) the usefulness of diagnostic tests and prognostic factors, c) the effectiveness of therapies, rehabilitation practices, prevention programs, estimated by observational and clinical studies.

Qualifying activities include the following ETU:

· Performing a bibliography research on Pubmed database on a given matter
· Performing a bibliography research on Embase database on a given matter
· Organizing the bibliography of a science paper by Mendeley
· Performing a small dataset analysis and presenting the results by Excel
Prerequisites for admission
Algebra skills acquired at high school
Teaching methods
Bibliometric research and use of statistical programs.
Course syllabus and attending modality will be presented during an initial meeting for both students and teacher.
ETU learning should be considered as a kind of committment between the student and the tutor: the student will be engaged in acquiring the knowhow defined by ETU, the tutor will ensure the quality and complete training on ETU.
ETU attending time will be established by the tutor taking into account the student's career and specific needs.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The learning of each ETU will be verified by the tutors.
The acquisition of the ETU is a mandatory prerequisite before undergoing the final examination and does not provide a mark in thirtieths, but has a qualifying function.
