Training (second year)
A.Y. 2023/2024
Learning objectives
Consolidate skills related to the content of the 1st year internship program.
Develop skills in performing diagnostic CT, MRI and interventional/angiographic radiology examinations, identifying the most appropriate imaging exam, promoting patient-centered practice.
Mature new skills and confidence in manipulating technical/physical parameters of CT/RMN exams and interventional/hemodynamic procedures for proper management of the exam/procedure as well as its optimization.
Know the forms and blood chemistry tests required for the patient to be able to perform examinations with contrast media, understand the operation of automatic injectors for their infusion, know their properties, adverse events and become familiar with the management of related clinical emergencies.
Acquire advanced skills in recognizing physiologic and pathologic radiologic anatomy, developing critical thinking, and evaluating images in terms of quality, diagnostic acceptability with respect to the patient's condition.
Acquire skills in the safe use of CT, MRI and fluoroscopic equipment, quality control, to ensure patient and operator safety, promoting high standards in accordance with radiation protection principles on ionizing radiation and electromagnetic field use.
Cultivate interpersonal and communication skills, complying with internship regulations, interacting with mentors and assistants, and learning to live in multidisciplinary settings and environments.

Expected learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student should acquire skills in the areas of
Diagnostic CT-RM- Contrastographic, interventional and complementary radiology:
- Critical evaluation of the request by consulting the physician for the purpose of avoiding dangerous or inadvisable examinations;
- Performing and acquiring conventional and breast radiology examinations by adopting the correct imaging techniques;
- Knowing how to make decisions on exam completion and optimization according to current protocols and required indications;
- Safe and effective management of diagnostic examinations requiring the administration of contrast medium, and know how to adopt all the procedures provided in case of urgency-emergency;
- Make technical and procedural choices consistent with current protocols, clinic, and patient conditions;
- Managing one's presence in the interventional/hemodynamic/operating room;
- Working in a safe manner in the use of ionizing radiation, and electromagnetic fields, maintaining the ALARA principle and ensuring maximum protection of the patient, operators, and the public while performing the examination;
- Critical thinking in the analysis of physiologic and pathologic radiologic anatomy, evaluating diagnostic quality and acceptability;
Relational and communicative personal development:
- Conscious time management and responsibility in the use of internship spaces;
- Activate appropriate professional attitudes, feedback with mentors and internship assistants, and effective communication within a multidisciplinary team;
- Communicate effectively with appropriate professional terminology with patients and be able to provide information about procedures, treatments, aids, and care pathway;
