Learning objectives
The course offers to the students tools to understand the most important changes in contemporary cities.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will approach the main topics of urban geography, the disciplinary lexicon, the main research tools and their use in different territorial contexts.
The student should must be able to analyze the territorial processes and propose her/his interpretation.

Course syllabus
The course aims at providing the students with tools to understand the main changes of contemporary cities. After an introduction to the disciplinary language and the key concepts of Urban Geography, the course will deal with the most recent debate on the contemporary city: urban transformations, city competitiveness, sustainability and innovation, strategies for urban development.
Prerequisites for admission
This class is intended for 2nd-year students of the CdL in Scienze Umane dell'Ambiente, del Territorio e del Paesaggio. Therefore, previous knowledge of the basic concepts of Geography and Economic Geography is required.
The same previous knowledge is also expected from students coming from other CdLs.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of a written test that aims to ascertain the students' knowledge, with particular attention to disciplinary terminology, basic notions of urban geography, argumentative ability and expository precision.
