Learning objectives
The course aims to provide a comprehensive and integrated overview in the important field of vaccinology, from immunology to all types of vaccine development, production, delivery and effect evaluation, including also the approaches for plant transformation (GMO and production of heterologous proteins)
Expected learning outcomes
The student is expected to reach the following results:
Theoretical learning
Gain knowledge on:
- Different types of veterinary vaccines and routes of vaccination
- Methodologies to prepare each type of vaccine, including oral vaccines
- Effects of vaccines in inducing specific and protective immune response
- Genetic modification of crops and medical molecular farming
- Key risk assessment and advantages of edible vaccines in veterinary medicine
Practical learning
- Know how to plan and prepare at least for phase 1 (in laboratory) a vaccine
- Know routes and time to perform vaccination
- Evaluation of genetically modified plants
- Ability to assess the effect of vaccination
