Learning objectives
The course aims to present the anomalies of position and number of teeth, of intermaxillary relationships, the problems of their treatment, the increased risk of contracting dental diseases and how to prevent them.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to orientate himself about the malocclusive pictures and to identify the correlations between dental hygiene and orthodontic movements both in children and in adults.

Introduction to Orthodontics and Gnathology
Preventive, interceptive, functional, fixed orthodontics, indications and complications of orthodontic therapy
Dental malocclusions in deciduous, mixed and permanent dentition, growth and development of the dental arches, normocclusion and normofunction.
Orthodontic check-up, instrumental and radiological diagnostics, 3D diagnosis, Cone Beam CT, cephalometry notes.
Skeletal dysmorphosis and dental malocclusions, orthodontic-surgical treatment.
Transversal, sagittal, vertical skeletal and dento-alveolar problems: notes on diagnosis and therapeutic principles, orthodontics and periodontal disease.
Physiology of orthodontic movement: notes on biomechanics; merchandise, fixed and mobile equipment, brackets, aligners.
Concepts of dental and skeletal anchoring using mini-implants, plates and osseointegrated implants.
Restraint and prevention of relapse.
Occlusion and temporomandibular disorders: dysfunctional cranio-cervico-mandibular disease.
Bad habits, bruxism, hints of gnathological therapy.
