Learning objectives
This course aims to provide the student with the general lines of the historical development of scientific thought with a particular focus on the context (historical, political, religious and cultural) in which it took shape and spread.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will gain a basic knowledge of the main issues related to the relationship between science and society, as well as an understanding of the appropriate lexicon of the discipline. The course will also provide critical tools for reading, interpreting and independently commenting on scientific texts from the past, whilst putting them in their historical context. These skills will be acquired through a direct and ongoing meeting with the instructor in the classroom. The discussion around the proposed sources will be a time of critical reflection and methodological learning.
Students who opt to attend or not attend will be able to avail themselves of the educational tools made available by the instructor on Ariel, deepen the main topics through special readings recommended by the instructor, and of course contact the instructor both by email and during the reception hours.
