Learning objectives
The lab aims at providing students with a basic knowledge on the main current EU policies, from the European Green Deal to the Next Generation EU, from international crisis to areas such as health, energy, innovation, digitalization. As a complement to legal, institutional or procedural notions, that are dealt with in other courses of the degree, this lab wants to transfer a pragmatic and up-to-date knowledge of EU internal and external priority actions, in order to:

a) get a complete and informed understanding of current EU affairs

b) get familiar with the EU policies that will continue to be priorities in the future

c) develop a holistic vision of the various dimensions of EU actions

d) finally, to start developing an expertise as "EU generalist", that may lead to future developments in both public, private (EU projects), diplomatic, communication professions
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the laboratory, students will have developed a 360-degrees knowledge of the main EU actions for the period 2021-27 and beyond, starting from the six priorities of the von der Leyen Commission: green and digital transitions; economic growth at the service of people and EU role in the world; promotion of EU values and the democratic dimension. In particular, also based on the direct experience of the teacher within the EU institutions, an interdisciplinary understanding of the dynamics, logic and interaction between policies and between institutions will be acquired, also with reference to the evolving role of the EU Commission as both "engine" of European integration and as new laboratory of (sanitary, climate, socio-economic, geopolitical) crisis management.
