Learning objectives
The course aims to introduce Students to fundamental elements of Urban Design and Spatial Planning discipline. It is divided into 2 complementary modules, each corresponding to 6 ECTS and 48 lecture hours,
which are closely integrated and structured. The first module provides a general understanding of urban planning culture, models, plans and practices governing contemporary urban and territorial phenomena
dynamics, at different spatial scales of intervention. The second module goals to provide critical and practical tools for managing environmental resources in territorial regeneration strategies, deepening the
knowledge, in form and content, of main types of tools and techniques for multi-scale planning of environmental values. In order to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills, lectures are
accompanied by an experiential training path and seminar meetings with representatives from the world of work. This will enable participants to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the course. The aim is to
acquire cultural, regulatory, methodological and technical bases for analysing, interpreting and evaluating the sustainability of transformation processes, also in multidisciplinary teams, and to develop a design attitude able of integrating environmental protection into territorial development.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of the course:
- Know, illustrate and describe phenomena and theories related to the basic principles and methods of the discipline of Urban and Regional Planning.
- Apply knowledge to understand and interpret the characteristics that define urban and territorial systems.
- Identify new solutions for the management of sustainable territorial development processes.
- To use the vocabulary of the discipline correctly in order to explain, in a clear and comprehensible way to the public - as a non-specialist audience - the decision-making processes determining project and plan choices impact.
- Strengthen operational skills and critical, communicative and transversal competences in order to interpret and manage planning processes sustainability, working autonomously or in a team.
