Learning objectives
The educational goal of the course aims at developing knowledge related to:
· individual, group and social communication processes in a globalized society
· the relationships between processes of social construction of deviance and their normative definition
· the functions of social control
· institutional responses to social problems
· to the historical evolution and the current legislation of family law
· to the law of juvenile law, with particular regard to the institutions of temporary custody and adoption, the problems relating to the connection between the administrative interventions of the services and those of the judicial organs
· to the framework of the most important issues of criminal law, juvenile criminal legislation and the social reintegration of the offender, connected to the role of professional educator
· to the elements of knowledge regarding secrecy, professional responsibility and reporting obligations
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must know

Assessment methods and Criteria
The learning assessment takes place through the final exam, both written and oral, which verifies the acquisition of the knowledge and skills expected for the teachings of the integrated course.

Course syllabus
The course covers the fundamental notions and concepts regarding the legal protection of minors. The provisions of the Civil Code concerning minors, the fundamental rights and freedoms of minors, parental responsibility and custody of minors in the event of family crisis, the new filiation regulations, and the instruments of civil protection of minors will be analyzed and illustrated.
Teaching methods
The subject of the course is the fundamental concepts concerning the legal protection of the child. The provisions of the Civil Code concerning the minor age, the rights and fundamental freedoms of the child, the parental responsibility and the custody of the child in the event of a family crisis, the new discipline of filiation, the tools for civil protection of the child.

Fundamentals of criminal law:
- Legitimacy, role and tasks of criminal law;
- Theories of justification of punishment;
- Criminal law: sources and general principles (in particular the principle of legality);
- Recognition of constitutional principles of criminal relevance;
- Systematics and analysis of the structure of the crime;
- Subjective element of the crime: guilt (intent, fault and preterintent);
- Capacity to understand and to want;
- Causes of exclusion of imputability;
- The professional educator and criminal law;
- Juvenile criminal law and the social reintegration of the minor offender;
- Notes on the subject of professional liability and obligation to report
