Learning objectives
Based on the knowledge acquired through the study of public law and international law, the course aims to provide solid basic knowledge of the European Union as a legal phenomenon, highlighting its peculiarities compared to other forms of international cooperation, with the The objective is to lead students to understand the role it plays both in relation to the national laws of the Member States and in international relations.
Attention will be focused not only on the fundamental concepts and institutions of European Union law, but also on the specific lexicon through which these find expression. To this end, the lessons will introduce students to the reading of legislation and jurisprudence.
In this way, the teaching aims to give students the indispensable knowledge and skills both to access the professional profiles with an international vocation that the degree course intends to train, and to tackle the third year courses which delve into particular profiles of the the action of the European Union in different disciplinary perspectives.

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will have to know the fundamental concepts and institutions of European Union law - in particular, the institutions of the Union and their functioning, the value of its legal sources, the skills that are attributed on an internal and external level and the related methods of exercise, the control mechanisms and the relationship with the laws of the Member States - and be able to explain them using an appropriate vocabulary.
Thanks to the analysis of regulatory and jurisprudential sources and case studies carried out in class, you will also be able to develop the ability to apply the legal categories and concepts learned to the manifestations of the daily functioning of the institutions of the European Union and the Member States, in order to read and evaluate the events connected to the phenomenon of European integration from the point of view of Union law.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The written exam consists of three open-ended questions designed to assess whether students have acquired knowledge of the fundamental concepts of European Union law and are able to explain them using appropriate vocabulary and critical thinking skills.
During the course, there will be written mid-term tests. The final grade will be calculated based on the average of the grades obtained in the mid-term tests.
