Learning objectives
The Master's Degree in Music, Culture, Media, Performance (MCMP) is awarded upon successful completion of a final examination, which consists of the writing, presentation, and discussion of a thesis on a specific research topic concerning musicology or closely associated disciplines. This final examination allows the student to carry out an independent project, demonstrating mastery of critical and methodological tools, argumentative skills, clarity of expression, aptitude for scientific research, and the ability to organize and present materials, sources, and scholarly literature relevant to the chosen topic. The subject of the thesis must be agreed upon with a faculty member of the program—who will serve as Supervisor—by the end of the first year. The candidate must also identify another faculty member to act as Co-Supervisor, who will have a supporting role and may provide additional guidance. The thesis is normally written in Italian; however, it may be written in English with the approval of the Supervisor.
Expected learning outcomes
The final examination consists in the discussion of the student's thesis before a dedicated Examination Committee composed of no fewer than five members, belonging to the same degree program or to related academic fields. Through this discussion, the student must demonstrate full command of the critical and methodological tools of their discipline, strong argumentative skills, and a mature capacity for expression. The student is also expected to show an aptitude for research and the ability to effectively organize and present documentation, materials, sources, and relevant academic literature according to the adopted methodology.
