Learning objectives
The course aims to introduce students to the most significant aspects of the history of French culture between the 20th and 21st century, by exploring how these aspects developed in light of the changes which impacted on the social and political contexts.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will be able to describe cultural phenomena in the historical and social context in which they occur.

The course is entitled: "Art and politics in in 20th and 21st century France
By retracing the most significant stages of French cultural history from the Third Republic to the present day, the link between art and politics will be analysed in two directions: on the one hand, the strategies adopted by the different governments in the field of cultural policy will be observed, and on the other the positioning of artists (from the most diverse disciplines) in relation to the political and social context in which they have expressed themselves.

No prior knowledge is required
Teaching methods
The course will be conducted through lectures in which the exposition of topics will be supported by the analysis of textual, iconographic and multimedia documents.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination will be in oral form and will start with the analysis of a document (from among those studied in class), and then expand to the more general contexts and themes considered in the course.
