Fundamental Rights in the European Union

Learning objectives
The module aims at analyzing the most crucial issues about fundamental rights protection in Europe. The module will start from the analysis of the different sources of fundamental rights protection in Europe (ECHR, national constitutions, European Charter of fundamental rights) and then it will focus on specific
cases, in order to study the interaction between sources and courts in the context of the multilevel system of protection.

Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- have a full knowledge and comprehension of the scope of the different sources of fundamental rights in Europe;
- deal with the interaction of the different instruments;
- deal with hard cases and the balancing of different fundamental rights.
