Learning objectives
The course aims to develop and strengthen students' knowledge of the history of contemporary Great Britain and the Commonwealth (as an association of independent states) starting from the history of the British Empire.
Students will also be asked to reflect on the most debated issues in contemporary historiography, particularly as regards the history of Imperialism in the contemporary age and the events of the countries involved.

Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, which culminates in an oral exam, students are expected to demonstrate a robust knowledge of the main developments in the history of the British Empire, contemporary Great Britain and the Commonwealth, especially with respect to the conceptual and thematic issues addressed in the class.
Moreover, they should be able to present and discuss the causes and effects of the main events of the period studied, using appropriate and subject-specific language.
