Neurological and Behavioural Disorders
A.Y. 2025/2026
Learning objectives
The course integrates multiple disciplines to provide a comprehensive approach to patients presenting with neurological and psychiatric symptoms, including those indicating involvement of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, or muscles. Symptoms covered include cognitive, motor, sensory, autonomic, and psychiatric impairments. A dedicated section on neurological, neuroimaging, and psychiatric assessment introduces students to the systematic evaluation of patients, guiding them on how physicians investigate symptoms and assess neurological and mental functions. The course also addresses the symptoms, diagnostic assessment, and pharmacological management of major neurological, neurosurgical, and psychiatric disorders, with a focus on their clinical presentation and disease progression. A special blocks will address the main topics in neurological rehabilitation.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students are expected to understand the main neurological and psychiatric conditions, including their clinical presentation, progression, and key symptoms. They will be able to perform systematic neurological, neuroimaging, and psychiatric assessments, interpret findings, and apply differential diagnostic reasoning. Students will also gain the skills to plan evidence-based therapeutic strategies for major neurological, neurosurgical, and psychiatric disorders, integrating a patient-centered approach that considers both neurological and mental health aspects.
