Nuove tecnologie per la riabilitazione cognitiva e tecniche di neuromodulazione
A.Y. 2025/2026
Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive preparation on the use of emerging technologies for cognitive rehabilitation and neuromodulation techniques applied in therapeutic contexts. Specifically, the course is divided into modules that will provide a solid background on neurology and neuropsychological disorders. Subsequently, students will learn the theoretical and practical principles of cognitive neuroscience, rehabilitation approaches and models, and about emerging technologies such as computer-based training, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality, serious games and artificial intelligence-based applications in cognitive rehabilitation. Students will also acquire skills in the use of neuromodulation devices, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
Expected learning outcomes
Students will improve their understanding of the brain areas involved in cognitive processes such as memory, attention and language, and will understand the concept of brain plasticity, i.e. the brain's ability to adapt and reorganise after damage. They will be able to identify and analyze the potential and limitations of new rehabilitation and neurostimulation technologies, both from a clinical and scientific point of view. They will be able to hypothesize methods of integrating these technologies into treatment plans, to treat patients with different needs. They will also be able to adapt and modify interventions according to the progresses of patient's condition.
Finally, the students will acquire the ability to collect, analyse and interpret data from neurostimulation techniques and assessment of cognitive processes.
