Learning objectives
The aim of the esercitazioni (i.e., practical classes added to the course but that do not allow to accrue ECTS), is that students acquire and develop written, oral, interaction and mediation skills, in accordance with levels described by the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR) and its subsequent revisions and updates.
Expected learning outcomes
The expected result in terms of applied competence is the achievement of the level specified for every year for all linguistic-communicative activities: reception (listening and reading), production of written and oral texts, interaction and mediation. The entrance level is detailed in the Prerequisites (none), while the expected goal is detailed in the Syllabus. Students are expected to spend time on self-study to prepare for classes and to review and consolidate work done in class.

Course syllabus
The aim is to reach CEFR language level A2 .
The exercises with native speakers are aimed at acquiring and practising the fundamentals of German grammar in writing and orally: conjunctions, prepositions, negation, nominal declension and verbal conjugation, active and passive of strong and weak verbs, modal verbs, secondary propositions. In addition, the exercises aim to achieve a basic communicative competence in German. Topics covered: countries, nationalities and languages; weather (time, days, months, seasons, date), family, professions and work, leisure, clothes and colours, eating and drinking, restaurant, shopping, flat, body and health, city and nature, animals and plants, weather, holidays, school and university, vocational training, character and description of a person, means of transport, parties.
Prerequisites for admission
- excellent competence in the Italian language;
- consolidated knowledge of Italian grammar;
- consolidated knowledge of grammatical terminology.
Teaching methods
The course includes seminar activities and group work in which the active participation of the student is required as well as the use of multimedia materials.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Preliminary written + oral:
Written test in official session (preparatory to oral test) + oral test in official session.
The written test ascertains knowledge of basic vocabulary and fundamentals of German grammar (A2/B1 level) and the ability to understand and produce a simple text. The oral test is an interview in German with the native speaker(s). Students/students holding a valid certification of B1 level or higher do not have to take the written exam and the oral practice exam (certification must be presented to the teacher in charge of the course for recognition according to the instructions given in class at the beginning of the A.A.). Written partial examinations will be organized during the A.A. Successfully passed partial tests can replace the written test at the end of the year.
Further guidance on the structuring and content of the written partials will be provided in class.
The final grade of German Language 1 expressed in thirtieths (exercises + monograph part) is given by the following partial grades: average of the grade of the written exercise or partial tests and the grade of the oral exercise which is averaged with the grade of the oral of the monograph part. Further clarification will be provided in class and on the teaching website (Ariel portal).
Regarding the length of validity of the grades of the written partials (tutorials and monograph part) and the written exam of tutorials (official session), guidance will be provided in class and on the teaching website (Ariel portal).
