Learning objectives
- Know the principles and rules relating to hospital hygiene, prevention and control of hospital and community infections;
- Know the basic rules to preserve and promote the health of the individual and of the communities;
- Know the rules and practices to maintain and promote health in the workplace, identifying situations of specialist competence;
- Acquire the ability to evaluate epidemiological data and learn about its use for health promotion and disease prevention in the individual and in the community;
- Acquire the ability to use in an appropriate way information, training and health education methodologies;
- Acquire the ability to participate in the identification of health needs of interest to the pediatric nurse profession;
- Deepen the knowledge of infection prevention and control techniques in clinical nursing care.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will have to be able to know and understand the hygienic-preventive sciences regarding health determinants, risk factors, individual and collective prevention strategies, interventions aimed at promoting the safety of health workers and users.

- the natural history of communicable and non-communicable diseases

Notes on epidemiology:
- sources of statistical-health data
- measures in epidemiology
- health indicators
- descriptive epidemiology

Prevention and health promotion:
- principles and methods

Prevention of non-communicable diseases:
- primary prevention
- secondary prevention: population screening

Prevention of infectious diseases:
- prophylaxis interventions
- vaccines and vaccinations

Epidemiology and prevention of communicable diseases (special part):
- diseases transmitted through water and food
- respiratory diseases
- diseases transmitted parenterally
- diseases transmitted by vectors

Occupational risks, effects on health and prevention in the work of nurses: chemical, physical, biological and organizational agents.

4. Interventions for the prevention of infections in nursing care (e.g. hand hygiene, application of personal protective equipment, preparation of the sterile field, manipulation of sterile devices, use of antiseptics/disinfectants, isolation)
