Agribusiness

The course is divided into two parts: I) Rural Appraisal and II) Agribusiness and aims to provide students with both technical appraisal skills for professional practice and managerial competencies required to successfully run a livestock enterprise.
Part I focuses on the study of appraisal methodologies within the rural context, with particular emphasis on entrepreneurial decision-making and the dynamics between public and private stakeholders, in accordance with common legal and practical requirements. The course covers the fundamental concepts of appraisal, introducing the notions of value, criteria, and estimation methods. Part II is aimed at understanding the activities and processes necessary for managing the entire business production system. The objective is to develop a managerial mindset, positioning operations management as a strategic tool for livestock enterprises to adapt to, anticipate, and capitalize on ongoing changes—without neglecting technical aspects of planning, process management, and innovation.

1. Knowledge and understanding: the student, at the end of the course, will have to demonstrate knowledge of the economic terminology underlying appraisal as well as procedures for business valuation and management.
2. Applying knowledge and understanding: the student will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding useful for identify appropriate appraisal criteria and procedures suitable for practical professional problems. They will also acquire basic skills in using management software and decision support tools relevant to the professional field.
3. Making judgments: through technical and practical activities, students will be encouraged to develop critical thinking by evaluating real-world case studies and assessing the applicability of different estimation approaches.
4. Communication: students will be expected to communicate effectively in professional contexts using the appropriate technical language and terminology of the discipline.
5. Lifelong learning skills: students will acquire independent study and research skills that will enable them to deepen their knowledge autonomously over the course of their careers.
