European Union Law - Special Part

The course is devoted to the "special" or "material" part of European Union law, focusing on the analysis of certain policies implemented by the Union institutions within the framework of the powers conferred on them by the Treaties. In particular, the course focuses on the realisation of the internal market, moving from the analysis of its progressive realisation to the study of its current configuration.
Each of the four fundamental freedoms of the internal market (the free movement of persons, goods, services and capital) will then be the subject of an in-depth examination, so as to provide students with the tools to understand the functioning of the internal market in the current economic and legal context of Europe. Particular attention will be devoted to the digital single market, retracing the milestones of its evolution and analysing the most recent regulatory instruments (Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, AI Act).
The study of the internal market will be conducted through the analysis of the relevant legislation (the rules of the Treaties, but also the specific instruments of secondary legislation), as well as through an in-depth examination of the case law of the Court of Justice, which has helped to outline the principles underlying the functioning of the internal market and still provides a fundamental tool for its understanding and construction.
There is also the possibility - for those who wish - to participate in the selection for a training internship at the Regione Lombardia, European Affairs structure.
A visit to the Court of Justice of the European Union is planned at the end of the course.
