Learning objectives
The advanced course in Ancient Greek Literature offers students the opportunity to deepen their critical understanding of the texts, themes, and significant issues of Ancient Greek literature throughout its historical development, from its origins to Late Antiquity and the Early Byzantine period.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding
Students are expected to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the themes, authors, and literary genres covered in the course, as well as of their historical and cultural contexts. They should be able to identify and contextualise the formal characteristics, historical development, geographical contexts, and reception of the works and literary traditions examined.
Skills and Abilities
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to analyse Ancient Greek texts independently with regard to their linguistic and dialectal features, stylistic and rhetorical dimensions, and metrical structures. They should also be able to engage critically with scholarly literature and to make effective use of the major bibliographical resources and research tools employed in the study of Ancient Greek literature and greek philology.
