Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the essential historical knowledge and methodological perspectives for the in-depth study of contemporary art researches, from late XIX c. till today, focused on the relationships between language and image.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: In-depth knowledge of the main tendencies and the most important authors in the field of intermedial experiments between word and image in XX c. avantgarde art.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Acquiring historiographic perspectives and methods, as well as critical skills for the study, the analysis and the interpretation of text-image artistic researches.

Prerequisites for admission
In-depht knowledge of the history of visual arts and literature of the XIX and XX centuries.
Teaching methods
Lectures and seminar lessons devoted to present the fundamental methods and perspectives for the study of artistic research between word and image. Some lectures in III Part will be focused on selected case studies.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam interview aims to ascertain the full knowledge of the topics presented in lectures, seminars and bibliography, also starting from the identification and critical analysis of works of verbi-visual art research.
