Learning objectives
The course is intended to offer the theoretical background in human anatomy moving from the general principles to the detailed analysis of the systems.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will achieve the principles in human anatomy, understand the structure of human body, analyse the systems at macroscopic and microscopic level, and apply this knowledge to science communication and teaching.

Course syllabus
General structure of the human body. Terminology and anatomical coordinates. Classification of organs and their structural schemes. Corporeal spaces and cavities.

System and apparatus dissertation is divided into four parts.
1. Support and Movement: the integumentary system, axial and appendicular skeleton, the muscular system.
2. Integration and Control: the nervous system, the endocrine system, sense organs.
3. Maintenance: the circulatory system, the lymphatic system and immunity, the respiratory system, the digestive system, the urinary system.
4. Reproduction: the male and female reproductive systems, human development.

Close to the general structure of each system an apparatus, the course includes specific and interdisciplinary in-depth analyses that are pivotal to the study of human anatomy in secondary schools and that range from comparative anatomy to health education.
Prerequisites for admission
Good knowledge of Cytology and Histology. Basic principles of comparative anatomy.
Teaching methods
Lectures with the support of slides include interactive discussions to stimulate the active participation of the student. Practical lessons of macroscopic and microscopic anatomy. Regular attendance is strongly suggested.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment of students' knowledge consists of a two-part oral examination focusing on basic knowledge of human anatomy. The first part assesses the knowledge acquired regarding the structure and organisation of the systems covered in the course and accounts for 85% of the overall mark. The second part assesses students' understanding of the interdisciplinary topics covered in the teaching of human anatomy in secondary schools and accounts for 15% of the overall mark. The final mark will be expressed out of thirty.
