Expected learning outcomes
During the internship the student will deepen the theoretical and technical-practical knowledge required by the course of study. At the end of the internship, the student will have learned how to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice and the experience gained will then be reported in a final paper which will be evaluated by a supervisor.

Course syllabus
The internship programme is defined according to the topic selected by the student and the characteristics of the host institution. Depending on the training project, activities may include laboratory work, field activities, research activities, data collection and analysis, technical and professional tasks, or other activities consistent with the educational objectives of the Degree Programme.
The specific contents and operational procedures are agreed upon with the tutor and/or academic supervisor and are described in the individual training project.
Prerequisites for admission
Students are advised to undertake the internship starting from the third year of the degree programme, after acquiring the fundamental knowledge and skills provided by the core courses. Such knowledge represents a useful foundation for the effective completion of the internship activities.
Teaching methods
Internship activities follow teaching and training methodologies specific to the disciplines and professional contexts in which they are carried out. Learning is primarily based on a "learning by doing" approach, involving the student's direct participation in the operational, experimental, technical, or professional activities defined in the training project.
Activities are conducted under the supervision of one or more tutors and may include laboratory work, field activities, research activities, data collection and analysis, technical tasks, or other activities consistent with the educational objectives of the internship.
Attendance of the activities specified in the training project is mandatory.
Teaching Resources
The teaching materials and documentation required for the internship activities will be provided by the tutor and/or the host institution according to the specific activities defined in the training project.
Depending on the nature of the internship, these materials may include scientific articles, specialized textbooks, laboratory protocols, technical manuals, maps, databases, technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and other resources relevant to the assigned activities.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Assessment of the internship is based on the evaluation of the activities carried out by the student within the host institution under the supervision of a tutor.
At the end of the internship, students are required to prepare a report describing the activities performed, in agreement with the tutor and/or academic supervisor responsible for the internship. The final assessment takes into account the consistency between the activities carried out and the educational objectives of the internship, as well as the successful completion of the tasks specified in the training project.
For external internships activated through COSP within organizations affiliated with the University, activities must be agreed upon with both the academic supervisor and the company tutor. The internship activities must be carried out in accordance with the approved training project, the terms of the relevant agreement, and the time schedule established by the specific internship agreement.
The activation, implementation, and completion of the internship must comply with the procedures established by the Degree Programme and the University.
The procedures for activating internships through COSP are additional to the internal procedures for internship activation and completion described here: https://spa.cdl.unimi.it/it/studiare/stage-e-tirocini
The internship is assessed on a pass/fail basis.
