Learning objectives
The course Morpho-Physiology aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the physiology of domestic animals, with particular reference to the nervous system, sensory organs, cardiovascular system, and the musculoskeletal system, including muscles, tendons, and joints.
The course further explores the anatomy of the integumentary system and sensory organs in domestic animals such as dogs and cats, as well as in non-conventional species including hamsters, rats, mice, rabbits, reptiles, and birds. In addition, it examines in detail the anatomy of the distal limbs of horses and the macroscopic and microscopic structure of the hoof.
The course further explores the anatomy of the integumentary system and sensory organs in domestic animals such as dogs and cats, as well as in non-conventional species including hamsters, rats, mice, rabbits, reptiles, and birds. In addition, it examines in detail the anatomy of the distal limbs of horses and the macroscopic and microscopic structure of the hoof.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Knowledge and understanding: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: 1) describe the functions and regulatory mechanisms of the central and peripheral nervous systems, sensory organs, integumentary system, cardiovascular system, and musculoskeletal system; 2) describe the microscopic and macroscopic structure of tissues and organs of the integumentary system and sensory organs; 3) describe the anatomical topographical anatomy of the distal limb and the anatomy of reptiles and birds.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: Students will acquire the ability to apply the knowledge gained during the course to enhance and deepen their understanding of the anatomy and physiology of domestic animals, including both conventional and non-conventional species.
3. Critical thinking and judgment skills: Students will develop the ability to critically discuss and evaluate the information acquired by actively participating in classroom activities, engaging with the lecturer, and independently expanding their knowledge through the recommended textbooks and additional learning materials provided or identified autonomously.
4. Ability to communicate what has been learned: Students will be able to communicate using appropriate scientific terminology during lectures, both when asking questions and when responding to questions posed by the lecturer or fellow students.
5. Ability to pursue study independently in the course of life: Students will be able to use the knowledge acquired to effectively approach the study of professional and applied subjects, thereby developing a comprehensive preparation for entry into the workplace. They will also be able to draw upon available sources of information and apply effective organizational and learning strategies to support lifelong learning.
