Orienteering Sport

Learning objectives
The course aims to acquire the technical skills to practice the sport of orienteering for the specialties of Orienteering Running (CO) (both urban and forest) and Trail-O (precision orienteering for the disabled) as a necessary requirement to be able to teach it. Hints will be given on the other 2 specialties: Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) and Ski-Orienteering (Ski-O). At the same time as the acquisition of personal technical skills, teaching skills will be developed to instruct at school level and at a basic level at a sports club, tourist center or local promotion body for activities aimed at heterogeneous groups in terms of age, expectations, abilities. Particular attention will also be paid to the use of new hardware and software technologies in order to prepare the teaching tools necessary for the activity (creation of simple maps and routes) and the control of the practitioner (location of the student also for safety purposes, timekeeping, etc.).
Expected learning outcomes
-Knowing how to interpret a generic topographic map in order to be able to move in the urban and natural environment very accurately
-Knowing how to use a compass to find a direction and follow it
-Knowing how to practice orienteering sport (Running, Orienteering and Trail-O) according to its sports rules in introductory categories
-Possess the necessary teaching skills to be able to teach the above
-Knowing how to prepare the teaching tools necessary for the realization of the above (cartography, tracking, user control)
-Knowing how to enhance territorial resources (public parks, historic centers, rural areas, woods) in order to propose orienteering activities to groups/institutions (schools, sports clubs, tourist promotion companies, tourist centers, campsites, etc.)
-Knowing how to use a compass to find a direction and follow it
-Knowing how to practice orienteering sport (Running, Orienteering and Trail-O) according to its sports rules in introductory categories
