Plant Biotechnologies for the Sustainability of Agroecosystems

Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the primary relationships among plant morphology, physiological functions, and metabolism. It will analyze the fundamental processes that determine plants' development, productivity, and ability to adapt to agroecosystem conditions. By integrating solid theoretical knowledge with practical examples, the course will explore strategies to increase crop yield and quality, promote the development of varieties that are more resilient to climate change, and optimize the use of herbicides, fertilizers, and water resources, fostering more sustainable agriculture.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to: a) recognize and distinguish plant cells and tissues while understanding their organization across various developmental stages and their functions in mature plants; b) gain in-depth knowledge of the primary biochemical and physiological processes that regulate the productivity of cultivated plants; c) develop the ability to design biotechnological strategies aimed at reducing the environmental impact of modern agricultural practices.
