"prison Project" Workshop: Issues and Problems of Contemporary Italy

The workshop explores the history of Italy in the post-World War II period, with some references to the international context. Through the analysis of key historical developments, it introduces students to historiographical debates and major historical research methodologies. Individual and group activities provide opportunities for interaction with instructors and peer discussion, fostering critical and engaged learning. The workshop, held in a Milanese prison, offers an opportunity for exchange between people from different life experiences.

By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- have a basic understanding of the history of post-World War II Italy;
- be familiar with the distinctions between the various periods of Republican Italy: the period of national unity, centrism, center-left governments, the political dialogue of the 1970s, and the pentapartito era;
- know the main sources used for historical reconstruction;
- be familiar with the major political figures in Italian history;
- understand the social dynamics of the country;
- have a general awareness of the historiographical debate;
- have a general knowledge of the relevant bibliography;
- be able to design and carry out bibliographic research on the historical period.
