Project Outside the Course Scope
A.Y. 2026/2027
Learning objectives
It allows you to delve deeply into a highly specific academic topic that isn't covered by the standard courses offered in your study program.
Expected learning outcomes
Based on the official course descriptions from kurser.ku.dk, here are the learning outcomes you are expected to achieve (using the standard 15 ECTS project as the benchmark):
1. Knowledge
Upon completing the project, you have acquired knowledge of and insight into:
· The Academic Core: The specific issue at hand, as well as the relevant scientific methods and theories required to investigate it.
· Academic Frameworks: How to tackle an issue within a defined academic framework, with a strong emphasis on creating a solid problem formulation, conducting a problem analysis, and designing an action plan.
2. Skills
You must demonstrate the ability to:
· Conduct Problem Analysis: Perform an in-depth analysis based on a chosen methodological or theoretical framework and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of those chosen methods/theories.
· Formulate and Communicate: Present a clear, unambiguous problem formulation and communicate your academic considerations in a straightforward and structured manner.
· Evaluate Alternatives: Critically evaluate alternative theoretical or methodological approaches you could have used to answer your research question.
· Independent Research: Search for, identify, and select relevant academic literature and information completely independently.
3. Competences
The highest level of learning outcomes requires you to:
· Draw Conclusions: Reach clear, unambiguous conclusions relating directly to your problem formulation and to the broader academic area.
· Critical Reflection: Reflect critically and independently on your chosen topic and evaluate its broader scientific and societal importance.
· Broader Discussion: Discuss and contextualize the scientific and societal impact of the issue you have researched.

Key Structural Differences Based on ECTS
The depth of these outcomes scales with the size of the project. If you choose to do a smaller 7.5 ECTS or 5 ECTS project, the expectations are slightly scaled down. For instance, smaller projects focus heavily on demonstrating independence and putting the problem into perspective, whereas the larger 15 ECTS projects demand a much deeper critical reflection on the societal and scientific importance of the issue.
