Stratigraphy and Paleogeography
A.Y. 2026/2027
Learning objectives
The course aims to integrate the study of the temporal evolution of sedimentary sequences, using key chronostratigraphic methods, with the spatial evolution of basins driven by the migration and latitudinal shift of lithospheric plates. Emphasis is placed on how these positional changes influence sedimentation patterns, within the framework of plate stratigraphy and paleogeography.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply integrated stratigraphic tools to indirectly date sedimentary sequences, correlate stratigrafic successions from local to global scale, and interpret the paleogeographic evolution of a region. They will be proficient in using key chronostratigraphic indicators (magnetic, isotopic, cyclostratigraphic) and critically analyzing data from complex case studies.
