Workshop: Medieval Cities: Spaces, Productive Activities, Urban Society

The objective of the workshop is to provide students with the necessary tools to
- analyse and discuss the main socio-economic features of medieval towns;
- understand the different methodologies adopted by historians in the study of urban dynamics;
- apply the specific vocabulary and methodology of medieval studies in the thematic field considered here in a pertinent manner.

By the end of the workshop, students should be able to:
- describe the key features of urban transformation in the medieval period, with a focus on the Italian context;
- distinguish correctly between the different methodological approaches adopted by historians and describe their peculiarities;
- use the appropriate linguistic tools (correct vocabulary and grammar) to clearly and effectively express the results of the research conducted under the teacher's guidance.
