Workshop: Sources and Methods for the History of Science: the Case of Galileo

Learning objectives
The workshop introduces students to the sources and methods of the history of science through the case of Galileo Galilei. By analysing texts, images and documents related to early modern scientific culture, students will become familiar with the basic practices of source analysis and with the main historiographical issues surrounding the so-called Scientific Revolution.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop students will be able to:
- identify and describe different types of sources used in the history of science;
- contextualise texts and documents related to Galileo and early modern scientific culture;
- understand the relationship between sources and historical interpretation.
