The course aims to analyze, from the perspective of the U.S. system, some of the most important challenges that affect the law and criminal justice. We will focus, in particular: on American exceptionalism in criminal matters and the keys to comparison with other legal systems; on algorithmic criminal justice; on criminal convictions and the stigma attached to them in the digital age; on 'multipolar' criminal populism and criminal policy; on the efficiency and guarantees of criminal justice.
