The course will examine, from a range of disciplinary perspectives, how the global reach of the internet is changing the theory and practice of free speech, in the context of modern Western democracies. The problem will be discussed with particular regard to the spread of the phenomenon of hate speech. The course aims to strengthen and develop doctoral candidates' expertise on this crucial issue and to develop possible responses and strategies to address the problem.
